What you're failing to realize is that last year's games should have no bearing on this year. It's a completely separate season, completely separate team, and completely separate opponents.
So let's say (hypothetically) Bama just barely scrapes by their remaining opponents, looking very unimpressive. Meanwhile, FSU and Oregon continue to thrash everyone they play...would you still contend that Bama deserves that number 1 spot because how how they played LAST YEAR? If so, you lose all credibility.
The only difference between now and that hypothetical is that Bama hasn't been scraping by, but FSU has been blowing out superior competition while Bama has not (which, granted, isn't entirely their fault). But we should not be penalized because of something Bama did last year or the year before.
If a huge CFB fan was, say, in a coma up until now. He awoke and you presented to him the stats and opponents from Bama, Oregon and FSU without telling him which is which...who do you think he's going to rank number 1? It's no question. Blowout wins @ then #3 (now #7) and against #7 (now #11)? Versus a close game against then #6 (now 2-loss #15) or a Blowout win against then 1-loss #12 (now #19).
FSU has BY FAR the most impressive resume of anyone in the country right now, but the preseason and SEC/Bama bias is keeping us down. It's a total farce that we are not ranked number one right now.
