FSU

1: keep playing consistent well executed football
2: take advantage of miamis mistakes and sloppy play
3: protect winston at all costs

MIAMI

1: eleminate sloppy play , especially at qb
2: improve playcalling to get speed guys in space
3: hit winston early and often, do not allow him to get comfortable

both teams should try to run consistently

i just hope miami eliminates the sloppy bullshit and comes to play football
we can win this but not if we play the way the have been

Attempting to blitz Winston would be a fatal mistake. This is well documented. Miami needs to play a bend-but-don't-break style of defense, hoping to hold FSU to as many FGs as possible. And since they tackle like shit, they might as well try to strip the ball on FSU's numerous 10+ yard gains.

FSU:
1. More talent
2. Home-field advantage
3. Playing better football right now

Miami:
1. The pressure is all on FSU, since everyone expects them to win.
2. The "us against the world" chip on their shoulder.
3. Miami has a history of knocking FSU out of NC contention.

Sadly, it was harder to come up with 3 reasons why Miami can win.

FSU:
1) FSU's defense has only gotten better with every game.
2) Jameis Winston
3) Kenny Shaw/Rashad Green/Nick Oleary

Miami
1) Rivalry Game
2) Duke Johnson
3) FSU could underestimate Coley's play calling.

Im hoping the coley dynamic works in our favor however there are two edges on that blade

fsu also knows coley very well

Bottom line is a whole lot better change if miami is going to walk out of tally unscathed

FSU

1. Establish run
2. Contain Duke Johnson
3. Limit Turnovers

Miami

1. Get Duke Johnson in space, run that other guy up the gut
2. Rush 4, drop everyone else back, play cover 3 man.
3. Stephen Morris has to take what is given, don't push the envelope.

If I was Miami, here is my gameplan.

Offense
- use everyone on the bench as far as RBs and TEs
- put Duke Johnson anywhere in multiple formations
- run the ball with the other back
- dont go for any big plays. Stay simple. Call plays that are designed to get 4-7 yds.
- use the TEs out wide vs CBs and run slants. Keep WRs near tackle box and run posts and corners.
- run the speed option ever so often to set up TE screens on the backside
- bleed the clock. The longer you have it, the less time there is for Jameis Winston on the field.
- run to the weak side of the Oline, and to the wide side of the field.
- or run to the strong side of the Oline, and to the small side of the field.
- keep 6 to block on every pass play

Defense

- play man on the outside, zone on the inside
- Cover 3 all day, don't let anything past the safeties
- rush 4, and only blitz on first downs.
- if blitzing, bring at least 7. 5 and 6 is not enough.
- also if blitzing, blitz 3 straight up the middle, not the outside. Keep 2 blitzers outside the tackle box.
- keep Jameis in the pocket as long as possible. More time runs off the clock, less time he has later.
- dont make him run outside
- play cover 3 with an OLB. Keep 2 safeties on the numbers, OLB between the hashes.
- crash the line vs the run. Make the inside run irrelevant. It takes longer to run outside than inside.
- use Safeties at CB in the Red Zone for outside contain, safeties are generally stronger than CBs

That's what I would do. Seems legit. I think Miami will make the game closer than everyone thinks.
Stephen Morris is the key to a Miami win. He doesn't have to throw for 300, he just needs to be efficient.
Turnovers will also play a large role.

I honestly see this turning out like the UCLA/Oregon game. I think Miami comes out fighting, FSU is a bit overconfident and sloppy and the game stays close for the first half. But eventually we wear them down, fix the mistakes and adjust and pull away in the second half.

I'm basing that purely on the fact that this is a rivalry game. If this were every other game, I wouldn't see it ever being close except when it's 0-0.

FSU:
1. Jameis Winston continues to play exceptionally well
2. Defense forces a turnover to start the game to set the pace
3. Continue to play as they have been

Miami:
1. Morris cuts down on every mistake
2. Duke Johnson has better stats than 9 carries for 27 yards
3. Exploit any and every hole FSU has

Well documented through out a 7 game season against no good Defenses? GTFO.

Blitz that freshman till you cant blitz no more... and then sub in new guys to blitz even more. I dont care if he kills us but his jersey better be dirty by the end.

Ask Clemson how well the blitz worked...http://www.tomahawknation.com/2013/10/2 ... tz-clemson

By all means, PLEASE, PLEASE for the love of God, PLEASE blitz Winston. You'll be lucky if you're still in the game by half time.

Im just saying blitzing is the only way we can stop Winston. Dude is going to pick us apart unless he has pressure in his face all game long.

See my post.

The key is quantity, not quality. Blitzing 5 or 6 is not good enough. Bring 7 at that freshman and I guarantee that will affect his throws. Gotta do it on 1st down though, and can't make it obvious.

the blitz doesn't need to look like this

a)
x
x x
x x xx xx x x

but like this

b)
x x

I cant draw it out but the highlights are blitzers. Other guys shift to cover certain areas of the field. Zone blitzing on 1st down is the best bet. You have to spread out blitzers, and crash them. Miami has the depth to last all game, they've proved it in many games this year. Its all about timing. If you come straight at Winston, he's going to roll out, and you're pretty much screwed at that point. But if you push a lot of guys up the middle, and bring guys to contain, hes got to get the ball out quicker because there wont be anywhere to go or him but backwards. Miami has to get pressure with just 4 also, and the secondary has to play well.

My only fear for Miami is if FSU can run the ball effectively. If FSU is grinding Miami early, the game will be over before halftime. They MUST stop the run.
