ESPN SEC love vs Big10 hate, makes no sense

Postby JimTrenzel » September 18th, 2013, 1:13 am

I was watching ESPN, college football live, and they had Collin on there and Herby talking about the Big10 and SEC. Collin said he would take any 1 loss team in the NC before a 13-0 tOSU team because they play in the Big10. He was talking about how horrible the Big10 is. From looking at a comparison between the Big10 and the top conference, the SEC, this is how it looks. The Big10 question is, we know the Big10 isn't at the SEC level, why are they being compared to them on ESPN and why is there so much hate towards them?

The SEC has 14 teams, 6 of those 14 teams are undefeated. 42.8% are undefeated.
The Big10 has 12 teams, 5 of those 12 teams are undefeated. 41.6% are undefeated.

The SEC has 14 teams, 3 of those teams are 1-2 with a losing record. 79% winning record so far.
The Big10 has 12 teams, 1 team is 1-2 with a losing record. 91.7% winning record so far.

The SEC is 0-5 vs currently ranked teams out of conference. 0% winning percentage vs ranked OOC teams.
The Big10 is 1-4 vs currently ranked teams out of conference. 25% winning percentage vs ranked OOC teams.

SEC vs Big10 head to head
Indian vs Missouri this weekend hasn't been played yet. Missouri is 2-0, Indiana is 2-1, neither teams is ranked.

Using the AP, since this is what ESPN uses when showing rankings
SEC has 7 teams ranked, 4 teams in the top 10
Big10 has 4 teams ranked, 1 team in the top 10

Since the SEC has so many teams ranked, shouldn't they be a lot more dominant than those stats above show?

They didn't mention the SEC. I am only comparing because ESPN compared without putting forth any facts for this season.

yea it seems pointless to compare the Big with the SEC when the pac owns the Big and is obviously the 2nd best conference :justsayin

I honestly think the Pac12 is the best conference in the country right now. The SEC going 0-5 vs ranked OOC teams makes them look pretty dang week.

Uh, I know Cal lost to OSU, so that's 1-1. ASU beat Wisconsin, so that's 2-1.... uhm. I'll look this up.

Well, Nebraska and Wisconsin aren't ranked anymore, I don't think. And Cal lost to both NW and OSU, so, I guess 0-2? But if we consider ranked at the time of play, 2-2. Which isn't half bad.

Edit: Washington over Boise as well, 3-2
