In fairness, Strong has done really well at Louisville, and they're a school that probably needs to pay a little more for a coach like that.

The rest don't make any sense, though.

For an AAC team in Cincinatti it doesn't make sense.

I intended it.

It doesn't really make sense because its Cincinnati

But it is Tommy Tubbs

So he is more proven than Fisher therefore he should make more than Fisher just weird that Cinnciis paying it.

Therefore it doesn't "not make sense"

I'll take this one step further, how big of a raise do you guys think Jimbo should get?

I say if we make the natty, but lose he should definitely go up to at least $3 million, maybe $3.25 million.

Win the natty and he should be at at least $3.5 million if not $4 million.

If we slip up and don't make it to the natty...he should go down to $2.5 million. :dog

Under no circumstances should he get a decrease.

Natty appearance and loss. 1 mill raise

Natty appearance and win. 1,750,000 raise

No natty appearance but BCS win. $750,000

It is because every year FSU gets hyped up by ESPN then gets destroyed in 2 or 3 games and the fans never fill up the stadium after. I bet half of these FSU fans on this board were rooting for Tim Tebow a few years ago. I lived in the area most of them go back and forth depending on who is better then act like they hate the other team while the other team sucks.

Orlando Sentinal - I know, not exactly the pinnacle of journalism, but I am also to lazy to verify everything I read there.

FSU's Jimbo Fisher is the 21st highest-paid coach in the country
By Brendan Sonnone | FSU Chopping Block
Orlando Sentinel

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher raves about his defense's performance in win against NC State.
Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has the Seminoles ranked as the No. 2 team in the country.

His salary, however, is a little lower than that.

Fisher has the 21st highest salary among FBS head coaches, according to a list released by USA Today. Fisher makes $2,750,000 this season, with a max bonus of $675,000.

Signed in 2011, Fisher’s contract runs through 2016. Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden said earlier this year that Fisher is due for a raise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Being around him, coaching with him, he's got as good a mind on football as you will find," Bowden said. "Florizda State better be happy. They better get their checkbook out here before long. Because you have pro teams and everybody else trying to get him."

It comes as no surprise that Alabama coach Nick Saban, who has led the Tide to back-to-back national titles, has the nation’s highest total salary at $5,545,852.

But what is somewhat shocking is the list of programs that pay their coaches more than FSU pays Fisher. SEC coaches like Arkansas’ Bret Bielema ($5,158,863) and Tennessee’s Butch Jones ($4,860,000) make substantially more than Fisher, despite leading conference bottom dwellers. Even two AAC schools – Louisville (Charlie Strong, $3,738,500) and Cincinnati (Tommy Tuberville, $3,143,000) – pay their coaches more. Fisher is the top paid coach in the ACC.

Butch Jones Salary

Newly hired University of Tennessee football coach Butch Jones will receive $18.2 million over six years, according to a memorandum of understanding released on Friday.

Jones will receive a base salary of $245,000 each season during the length of the contract along with a supplemental compensation of $2,705,000 annually.

He receives a $500,000 signing incentive.

The buyout if Jones is terminated by UT is $2 million and will not change throughout the contact.

The buyout for Jones to leave is $4 million after the first season, $3 million after the second and third seasons and $2 million the final three seasons.

Per the contract that Jones broke with the University of Cincinnati in order to come to Knoxville, Tennessee will be responsible for a $1.4 million payout owed to Cincinnati.

In a worst-case scenario for the university and its athletic department, Tennessee could face $10.8 million in buyouts alone in replacing coach Derek Dooley.

It will come in addition to the roughly $5 million buyout owed to Dooley, who was fired on Nov. 18., and upwards of $4.4 million potentially owed to members of his former staff. That figure depends on how quickly they find other jobs and how much those jobs pay.

Dooley will receive his payments in monthly installments of roughly $102,040 through December 2016.

With Jones taking the job Friday, the athletic department will pay $17 million for two head coaches over the next four years.

In October, prior to Dooley's termination, Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart addressed financial woes in the athletic department and told the News Sentinel, "We are carrying the largest — by far — debt service in the conference and the smallest — by far — reserve in the conference."

Jones is expected to start at UT immediately. UC athletic director Whit Babcock said in a Friday morning press conference that he will not coach the Bearcats against Duke in the Belk Bowl.

Babcock said UC offered Jones a new contract that included "a significant increase on his current deal" when trying to retain him. He added that he was contacted by five other BCS schools trying to poach Jones.

Jones, who earned $1,575,000 annually at Cincinnati, turned down offers from Purdue and Colorado before agreeing to terms with Tennessee.

The 44-year-old is 50-27 in six seasons as a head coach at Cincinnati (23-14 over three years) and Central Michigan (27-13 in three seasons).
