And then everyone else...

Except Florida State. They're awful and are 4 years away from even thinking about competing again

If Ohio State beats Penn State in 2 weeks they should be rated #1. Alabama, Georgia and Clemson will have virtually played no one but Texas AM at that point and OSU will have 2 wins over teams that will likely be ranked top 15 both on the road.

Too bad we rank teams on expectation and history and not on season to date accomplishment.

While I don’t think they are great, LSU should be ranked higher on accomplishment.

The Clemson shit is blowing my mind, if that was Ohio State they would have dropped to 5th by now. WTF did they do this year or really last year for that matter?

I just don't see where Clemson is that strong to be ranked 2nd right now, they don't really have any play makers on offense they have struggled in all 3 games so far really and should have lost if the refs did not botch that fumble vs Texas AM.

A fair ranking at this point based off of recent history, this years accomplishments, and talent would be something like this. LSU is about the 10th to 15th best team in my opinion but they have the best wins to this point.

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. LSU
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. Clemson

Being slightly better than App St does not warrant a #1 ranking. You've already played the toughest opponent on your schedule.

South Carolina was ranked when UGA played them. Texas A&M was not ranked when Clemson played them. Georgia won big. Clemson won because of a phantom touchback. Texas A&M is now ranked. South Carolina is not. Texas A&M was ranked because they played Clemson close. South Carolina is not because they did not play Georgia close. This does not mean that Texas A&M is better than South Carolina or that Texas A&M will win when they play.

We really don't know how good anyone is until midway through the season. All rankings are based on preseason projections. Washington and Miami being ranked high have boosted Auburn and LSU. Then LSU beat Auburn, which boosts LSU more. Georgia vs LSU could both be top 5 teams at the time, and it will look like the best win of the season to date. By the end of the season LSU could have 3-4 losses.

South Carolina could end up being a top 10 team. They could go 10-1 and beat Clemson. They could go 5-6 and miss a bowl game. We don't know how good that win was because nobody (except those that played week 0) has played more than 3 games.

It's that way everywhere. All we can do is enjoy the games we have, and then come up with some form of judgment of who is in the mix come Halloween.

Good reason not to worry about current rankings.

Barring the unthinkable, the playoffs will be Bama, OSU, and some combination of Clemson, Oklahoma (possibly Oklahoma St?), Georgia, and maybe Stanford. But it's a long season, and the unthinkable usually happens.

I was joking yesterday to assume the following:

1. ACC Champ Clemson with 1 or 0 losses
2. Big 10 Champ Ohio State with 1 or 0 losses
3. Big 12 Champ Oklahoma with 1 or 0 losses
4. Pac 12 Champ Washington with 1 loss to Auburn
5. Auburn beats Bama, Bama beats LSU, and all 3 finish in a 3 way tie for the SEC West.
6. 10-2 Georgia, with regular season losses to Auburn and LSU, wins the SEC title game (likely against LSU, assuming Florida finishes with a better SEC record than Tennessee).

WTF does the committee do? I could see plausible reasons to leave the SEC out. I could see a plausible reason to put in Auburn who beat Bama, Georgia, and Washington. I could see the committee choosing Alabama because it is Alabama. I could see multiple SEC teams in, neither of which played for the SEC title.

You're dumb haha, like it is an easy game or something. I guess beating LSU or Auburn doesn't carry any weight for Alabama then. It is especially difficult for Ohio State because Penn State looks at Ohio State as their biggest game every year and they always have a whiteout with the largest student section in the nation in a crazy setting.

So according to you 1 close game vs a scrappy mid major in the 1st game of the season pisses away everything PSU has accomplished the last 2.5 years, they just bounced back by murdering Pitt by 50 points??

Beating TCU and Penn State on the road has a lot of weight this early in the season, throw that in with 50 point destruction of the lesser opponents and they should be #1 if they win that game seeing how Alabama's best opponent will have 2 losses and everyone else they played sucks.

It would be Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Washington with Bama at 5th more than likely.

How do you know they are the toughest, 3 damn games have been played? In 2014 Ohio State lost to VT and was a juggernaut by the end of the season. Michigan could go 11-1, PSU could go 12-0, MSU could go 11-1 and just get better. 2013 Michigan State and 2016 PSU did just that.

I will venture to say that PSU will finish higher than TCU right now.

Alabama is everyone’s #1 target. Cry about something else.
Penn st has looked like shit and until we see something different from them OR we see that their opponents turn out to be world beaters then atm penn st is nothing more than us beating atm. LSU bearing auburn @ auburn is a lot more impressive than you beating penn st unless you just beat the living shit out of them like I don’t... Iowa did to y’all...
