I think you fail to see the point, didn't say their schedule's overall suck, only Alabama's does out of those teams. Why are they scheduling a 2-9 FCS team, or even FCS teams in general?
Ohio State for example has only done it twice and it was because Tressel begged them to to help Youngstown State financially.

It's not likely to keep you out of the playoffs, assuming the rest of your schedule is reasonable.
It's practically a bye week. Comes in handy before a rivalry game.
Philanthropy, as you noted above.
If every FSU schedule from here to eternity starts with a G5 team, and has an FCS team before UF, I'll be happy.

I bet you would tell me Duke, Wake, Virginia, NC State, NC, BC, GT, Pitt etc are decent programs. I believe GT, Pitt and Wake each went to 1 and none of the others did.
How many of those programs played in 2 BCS bowl games during the BCS era? Illinois did.
