graduation success rate.

Georgia might not be getting it done on the football field this season, but it’s getting it done in the classroom.

The NCAA on Thursday released its latest numbers compiling the Graduation Success Rates (GSR) for every athletics program in the country and the Bulldogs’ student-athletes graduated at a rate of 83 percent. That is up from 81 percent of a year ago and ranks fourth among SEC schools.

Along with men's basketball, football showed one of the most dramatic improvements of UGA’s sports, increasing its rate 13 points from 69 percent last year to 82 percent in this period. That percentage was tops for football teams in the SEC. Men's hoops improved from 50 to 63 percent.

The Bulldogs had four sports record a perfect 100 percent rate: women’s basketball, gymnastics, softball, and women’s tennis.

Among SEC schools, Georgia was first in six sport categories— football (82%); 2006 football freshmen (79%), women’s basketball (100%), softball (100 %), gymnastics (100%), and women’s tennis (100 %). Georgia was in the top five among SEC schools in six other sports: women’s swimming and diving (3rd, 96%), men’s swimming and diving (4th, 83%), soccer (4th, 96%), women’s cross country/track and field (4th, 91%), men’s cross country/track and field (5th, 79%), and men’s basketball (5th, 63%).

The four-year average rate includes not only freshmen but transfers in and out of the institution. The current report tracks the freshman classes of 2003-2004-2005-2006.

“It’s gratifying to see our overall rate continue to improve and that some sports made significant jumps in their scores,” UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity said in a news release. “We’re also pleased to rank at or near the top in both overall and several individual sports among our SEC peer institutions. The report is encouraging and while there’s always room for continued improvement, credit is due to our coaches and academic support staff for their diligence in both the academic emphasis and overall well-being of our student-athletes.”

We may not win football titles, but we prepare more quality US citizens than any of the other programs that over-sign and cut players just chasing crystal footballs. Thanks CMR! Now, GTFO!! You had a great run, but it's time to win a Championship. Still, thank you for actually giving a fuck about creating quality people on and off the football field.

Yeah, it would suck to be completely irrelevant in all aspects of life as a "University." Kinda feel bad for Tennessee... Used to be a force to be reckoned with...
