That would be a sucker bet. Even if your team had a 90% chance of beating every B1G team, that still means a 28% chance of winning every game.

Well I hear all the time about how weak the big10 is. I would think that would be a sure bet for FSU, Oregon, Bama, Miami, Missouri, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Auburn fans...

45-38 was an ass kicking?

Wasn't that the same Wisconsin team that lost to a 7 loss tOSU team?

Alabama would break Oklahoma's consecutive wins record if they played in the B1G. FACT. Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State all brutally dominated by Alabama the past few years and the game was never in question. Yes, I would put a $1000 on Alabama to go 9-0 in the B1G every year.

The math doesn't work, though. In order to have even a 50/50 chance of going undefeated against a collection of 12 teams, you'd have to have just over a 94% chance of beating each one. It's right around 94.39% chance that you'd need of beating each team.

That's why you usually only get one or two teams going undefeated every year, because it's actually harder than you'd think, even if you're better than all the teams on your schedule.

Probably not.

12/0 is not the same as 8-0 or 9-0

It would kinda depend on where each game was played. But, my team? No way.

Since its not possible to play 12 teams from the same conference, there's no logic in this question. But, theoretically, if Alabama lined up all 12 of the B1G teams on a schedule, yes, they would stomp their ass. Average margin of victory would be around 21-28 points. Closest win would be Ohio State, probably beat them by 17. Beat Purdue by 49. The average score I would guesstimate it to be around 41-10 each game. Alabama is a nightmare matchup for any B1G team. Big, strong, AND fast defense sides by a slow paced, methodical, bust your teeth offense.

Yes, Alabama would go 12-0 with little to no trouble at all.

Even teams like FSU, Alabama, and Oregon would still have somewhere between a 70% to 90% chance of beating each team in the B1G, on average. Obviously, some teams would be higher and some lower. But the average would be somewhere between 70 and 90.

90% odds in all 12 games gives a team a 28.2% chance of beating all 12 teams
80% odds in all 12 games gives a team a 6.9% chance of beating all 12 teams
70% odds in all 12 games gives a team a 1.4% chance of beating all 12 teams

Incidentally, if you take 1.4% and multiply that by 120 (the approx number of teams in FBS) you get 1.66, which is probably pretty close to the average number of teams that go undefeated in the regular season each year.

When you look at it like this, you can see that the odds are long for any team, even a great team, to go undefeated. That's why so few teams do.

Are you basing that on playing the a

6 loss PSU team in 2010
4 loss PSU team in 2011
5 loss UM team in 2012
a 2010 MSU team that didn't play tOSU and lost to 37-6 to Iowa, just like they lost 49-7 vs Bama

Congrats on beating up on really bad teams...

We are talking about your current Miami team... Not the best Miami team ever assembled. Your current team would probably lose at least 3 games playing all 12.
