How the 4-team playoff could work really well:

You have four 32-team Superconferences: SEC, B1G, Big XXXII, and Pac-32. The conference champions meet for a 4-team playoff. Each conference gets to determine how they crown their champion.

The ACC, AAC, and other conferences are absorbed into the 4 remaining conferences. A few FCS teams get to come up, so that we have enough teams.

Here are the conferences:

SEC : Alabama
Appy St
Arkansas
Auburn
Clemson
Coastal Carolina
Duke
East Carolina
FAU
FIU
Florida
Florida St
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Kentucky

I would imagine the conferences would be divided into four 8-team divisions.
For example, this is what the SEC divisions could look like:

Alabama/Georgia : Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Mississippi St
Ole Miss
Troy
UAB
Florida : FAU
FIU
Florida
Florida St
Miami
South Alabama
UCF
USF
West : LSU
Arkansas
Clemson
Kentucky
Missouri
NC State
Texas A&M
Vanderbilt
East : Appy St
Coastal Carolina
Duke
East Carolina
Middle Tennessee
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee

I would imagine that each team would play all 7 teams from their division, then rotate around and play 1 team from each of the other three divisions. Then that leaves them with 2 OOC games.

The teams with the best record from each division are seeded into a 4-team conference playoff. This would determine the conference champion.

If that's too many games, then we could say that the division leaders would not play the OOC games, while the rest of the teams are free to schedule OOC games. While this might wreck havoc with game scheduling, the fluid nature of this could drive up excitement, because you won't know who your team's OOC games are. Plus, teams would be free to schedule good teams, since at that point they wouldn't have to worry about being out of the NC picture, because they already are.

Only problem I have is this selection committee absolutely fucking sucks. WHY THE FUCK IS A POLITICIAN IN IT?

We need PEOPLE WHO KNOW FOOTBALL. It's fucking ridiculous how stupid the NCAA is at this point.

My idea would eliminate the need for a selection committee or rankings or anything like that. All you need to pay attention to is division standings.
