"Amid Allegations of Bribery, NCAA Opens an Official Investigation

Blacksburg, VA. - The NCAA today acknowledged that it has opened an official investigation into the Virginia Tech mens Football and Basketball teams amid seemingly substantiated internet rumors of bribery attempts by the players and coaching staff toward game officials. "At this time, we do not wish to make the intimate details of the nature of our investigation available to the public," Gregory Sankey (Associate Commissioner of the SEC and voting member of the NCAA infractions committee) was quoted as saying at a low-key press conference earlier this evening, "suffice it to say that we are reviewing the very compelling evidence that we have been provided so far and intend to punish any unethical behavior to the fullest."Rumors of misconduct have encircled the Virginia Tech football program for several years, first being exposed in 2007 by "The Dude", a respected investigative blogger from West Virginia who also broke news about several conference expansion acquisitions long before they were publicly acknowledged. "The Dude" is believed to have close personal contacts within several ACC, Big XII, and Big 10 schools, which may include Virginia Tech.Among the allegations listed over the years appears to be the claim of bribery towards the game officials in several high profile mens football and basketball matches, including a controversial call in the 2007 ACC Championship Game against 10-2 Boston College (an otherwise close game that Virginia Tech sealed with a last minute interception return for touchdown to win 30-16). This pattern apparently continued until sometime in late 2011.A major booster with the program has now come forward with evidence to both the NCAA and SportsIllustrated, ostensibly disgruntled by the lack of results garnered through the complex and deep-reaching money laundering program, and wishing to dislodge head coach Frank Beamer and his crew against the wishes of the school. SportsIllustrated is still reviewing the evidence, which is expected to be published with the full article later, but the case appears to be fairly concrete for the NCAA.At the time of this article, the Virginia Tech Athletic Association and head football coach Frank Beamer could not be reached for comment."

Does it surprise me. No.

Do I think they're guilty. :dunno maybe, the article makes it seem as if they have pretty damning evidence. Yet so have most of the other articles about other schools.

If guilty punishment should happen in this circumstance.
