Wow!

Sparked by a nearly flawless first 17 minutes, the deep, talented, and dangerous Miami Hurricanes Basketball team took no prisoners today in a 105-79 victory Vs Mississippi State.

ESPN pundit Jay Williams was so impressed at the half, he called UM contenders for an ACC title.

He's only one day behind yours truly.

The 'Canes jumped out to an early lead as Angel Rodriguez found both Sheldon McClellan and Tonye Jekiri with sharp passes that led to dunks.

But Gavin Ware had 6 quick points in the post though, and MSU was hanging tight the first few minutes.

UM responded big time with great defense and an offensive flurry, and Davon Reed poured in a half dozen early points of his own to start a run.

The onslaught was on.

At the 11 minute mark the Hurricanes made their 4th straight triple when James Palmer swished one from the corner and the lead was 24-11.

Miami smelled blood.

Rodriguez knocked down a second chance trifecta, and then found Sheldon McClellan for one of his own to swell the lead to 20.

The senior from Puerto Rico certainly felt right at home as he crossed over and scored on a drive moments later.

Not to be outdone Ja'Quan Newton took the ball hard to the hoop himself and scored deftly on the 'Canes next possession.

Suddenly it was 40-19.

The Hurricanes' balance was incredible. Everyone seemed to be getting in the act.

Even freshman C Ebuka Izundu, who got some valuable minutes today, scored twice from underneath in the first 20 minutes..

Ivan Cruz Uceda nailed a three and was called for a questionable taunting T toward the end of the half. It didn't matter, the Hurricanes just couldn't miss.

At the 20 minute mark it was all Miami, as UM took a 59-35 lead to the locker room.

The game wasn't even that close. The 'Canes were a little sloppy and loose in the final 3 minutes, but their overall effort was dominating.

They knocked down a spectacular 20-32 shots in the first stanza.

In the final 20 minutes the Bulldogs were a lot more physical.

Miami matched their intensity.

The predictable result was a whole lot of whistles.

Craig Sword scored on a fast break for MSU 5 minutes in to slice the lead to 19.

5 quick points by Palmer put an end to that though.

From there the game resembled something in between a pick up contest and a free throw shooting exhibition.

The Hurricanes closed out strong enough though, that the second half was never really competitive.

If they keep playing this well, it certainly won't be their last blow out of the season.

7 'Canes finished in double figures.
