So I found out today that Reddit is killing itself again in a greedy move to kill off third-party apps. The reason I found out was because my feed reader (RSS, the main way I use it when I actually do) gave me a 403 error (access denied) and evidently there are a bunch of subreddits that are "blacked out" right now. Twitter did something similar charging outrageous prices for API calls but I don't use Twitter so I don't give a fuck. RSS doesn't really use an API call (AFAIK) so if mods weren't crying in protest I'd still be fine. I even use a feed to read posts on here.
Youtube is actually doing something similar: they've started to block adblockers and sent legal threats to Invidious, the third-party solution that I generally use (hosted on various sites yewtu.be, vid.puffyan.us, etc.). The funny part about Invidious' case is that it doesn't use Google's Youtube API so the legal threat saying they need to agree to terms of a product they don't use means nothing.
Possibly the most retarded part of this shit is that all of them have made third-party solutions so much better than the official front-end. They made the simple task of serving videos and text so convoluted and bloated and shitty that people went to the trouble to make better ways to access them. :clap :clap :clap
Thank fuck I discovered Odysee... although that site requires Javascript, which is not ideal.
