The answer is no. Everyone says it’s yes because the wheels don’t provide the thrust for the plane. But the fact of the matter is that if the plane is not moving through the air (the way a treadmill works, you aren’t moving forward, it’s not a fucking runway) then it’s not creating lift. Period.

The answer is no. Everyone says it’s yes because the wheels don’t provide the thrust for the plane. But the fact of the matter is that if the plane is not moving through the air (the way a treadmill works, you aren’t moving forward, it’s not a fucking runway) then it’s not creating lift. Period.

An ultralight plane needs 40-50 MPH for takeoff.
A Cessna need 60-65 MPH.
Assuming the treadmill moves in the opposite direction at the same speed, the plane is not going to remain still. The wheels are just going to spin faster. You may need an extra 5-10% of thrust to compensate for friction, so the equivalent of 75 MPH should easily get the plane off the ground. And if the plane is a Harrier Jet, well... :dog

In this scenario, the runway is essentially a really long treadmill. Otherwise, the answer is no, because no treadmill is big enough for a plane. :roll:

And you think the idea of the runway being a conveyor belt is dumb? The length of the treadmill is not specified. Bottom line: a plane can take off on a treadmill... unless that treadmill is unreasonably short.

No it can’t. How far can you run on a treadmill if it’s turned off… a plane can’t take off on a treadmill. A plan can take off on a runway with a really long conveyer belt sure. A plane can’t take off on a treadmill that is a reasonable size compared to the size of a plane. Period. You’re mad. lol
