Any of y’all think we should raise the voting age?

Postby JdPat04 » May 6th, 2019, 12:31 am

I think it should be 21 and I think we shouldn’t have anybody under 21 being sent to fight in wars.

Great idea.

Better idea: make it 40-50 white males that are registered gun owners. :lolthumb

Restricting voting rights = FREEDOM. :usa :champ

I see you can't seem to think of a better response than "ur dum. lol."

I don't really blame you as trying to defend some arbitrary number isn't exactly easy.

The only reason that limit is in your head is because of the legal drinking age in the U.S. It could just as easily be 16, 20, 19, 22, 25, 28, etc. if you weren't predisposed to think of 21 as maturity milestone, much the same reason as I chose 16 to start off that list of numbers. It's all bullshit made up to be enforcible, not accurate.

Most people would think it's retarded to say someone can't watch porn until they're 21, but that's the law in some U.S. jurisdictions. It's hilarious considering you can see an NC-17 movie with strong sexual content and nudity at 17 as well as R-rated movies at the same age or younger with an adult.

I gave a more reasoned response than “RACIST REPUBLICAN” that you spewed.

It’s 21 because that is the maximum age of laws we have now. The best age would be 25 because of brain maturity. I don’t think anybody before the age of 25 should be drinking or smoking weed or any of that if possible. Let the brain develop and people could make better decisions.

That of course is adding 7 years restriction instead of the 3 that I think is a good average.

See how that has nothing to do with biased politics or race. I wouldn’t be mad if the driving age was upped some. Fucking kids are dangerous, and I know because I was one.

I wasn't really talking about racism. I was talking about demographics and party affiliation. Most NRA middle-aged white males are Republican.

It's no secret that college-aged adults skew Democrat, so I figured why bother with the pretense? Just go with the age-gerrymandering jackpot.

Younger Voters Are Also Leaning to the Democratic Party
51% of Millennials identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, compared with 35% who identify with the GOP or lean Republican.

Can you dispute anything I said in why I support it?

Zero to do with who is voting for who. It’s actually just about trying making sure people are a bit more responsible with serious things such as drinking, drugs, war, and voting.

Also when you bring race up it’s about race.

Why didn't you say 25 then? Most people who aren't mentally retarded know the difference between right and wrong before they're 25, or "mentally mature." And who's to say who's more "responsible" than anyone else? You? The President? Congress? Who? And there are tons of people of ALL ages that are irresponsible. Take Pizza Boy: something like 40 years old and lives on his parents' dime. Is he someone you think should be allowed to vote because he's over 21, or he shouldn't because he's irresponsible? What about some 100-year-old who doesn't know what year it is? Should there be an age maximum, too? By most measures, kids are learning things earlier than before, so one could argue that 18-year-olds are more aware about things than previous generations.

As I said, your whole argument is an arbitrary age. Considering it's also the legal drinking age and people may be more inclined to go temporarily insane at that age, your voting age increase cuts out the sober "responsible" or aware people under 21. Is that really an improvement?

I'd argue that proponents of non-prescription or non-medical drugs are irresponsible.

Burden of proof is on you, bro. You're the one talking about changing the status quo. Same with the state prosecuting a defendant: the defendant is innocent (default) until proven guilty by the state, who has the burden of proof to change the minds of the jurors.
Also when you bring race up it’s about race.

Hence the "really." I also brought up the NRA and an age range, both of which are more disciminatory than race.

I already explained why I said 25. Please read again.

You didn’t mention the NRA until I called your racist shit out.

You said REGISTERED GUN OWNER. Which is what I am but never have been involved with the NRA. Silly libtards and their stereotyping.

If its 18 require an aptitude test if they do not know communism from facism and cannot pass a small history test that diacusses such extremes dont let them vote

But if you raise voting age they are gonna have to raise military enlistment age and tobbacco and alcohol too

You could enlist in the military but those jobs wouldn’t be in combat.

Other than that raising the age on it all seems like a good idea to me.

Do you feel tobbacco and alcohol ages would hold constant ?
I agree with 21 so long they cant go military because its unfair to expect someone to not be able to vote who is serving the country

Overall 18 yo is still a kid mentally in our day and time
