The economy is shit anyway: Angie's List might as well be Angie's Mountain because so many workers are incompetent, job recruiters are pathetic glorified resume search engines, the middle class is disappearing because they're either falling below the poverty line or rising well above it. Robots (machine learning) are taking jobs from people who otherwise wouldn't be able to work.

The number of "repair" technicians I've encountered who've made things worse is absolutely ridiculous.

Millenials are way worse off financially than their parents were. Just for everyone's edification, millenials are people born in the 1980s and 1990s. I didn't know I was a millenial until the past year or so. That's people who are right now around 20-40 years old. Applying for jobs has become a lot easier. Getting jobs, subsequently, has become much, much harder. High supply of workers because of this overpopulation bullshit and better and better AI taking away even more jobs from people. Just because you don't want to be a cashier at McDonald's doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to become one if nothing else is available.

I was unemployed from September 2017 to March 2019, due in large part because I lived in 3 different states in that timespan because my girlfriend 1) got a new job 2) had 6 months of training in a new state, and 3) chose a different state to "settle down" in. The other part was that I had no goddamn clue how brutal the job market was/is. I still don't consider myself employed, actually. I have a 1099 "job" that is pure commission and has cost me several hundred dollars for training/certification. The only reason I took it was because of reasons I'll outline below.

HR will automatically toss your resume (figuratively) in the garbage if they see you've been unemployed for 6+ months. And they will not tell you that. The only reason I have the "job" that I have now is because they lose ABSOLUTELY NOTHING if I "don't work out." They pay me nothing. They use a 3rd party database that *I* have to pay for each month. It's pure garbage. But I'm fucking stuck with it until someone takes a fucking chance on me.

All throughout middle and high school I, along with countless others, was told that "computer guys will be in high demand. You're going to be well-off." HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAA That's FUCKING HILARIOUS! If I'm so goddamn rare/necessary, why won't tech companies hire me? Oh, probably because the fucking job process is completely broken: incompetent boobs who know someone will likely get the job over Applicant 284194 who has "an impressive skillset." And not just incompetent ones, but ones with maybe slightly lower skills/experience will get a job if they're a) just out of college or b) know someone. I probably suck at interviews, but it never bit me the 4 jobs I had before. Oh, and to "be nice," these companies will compliment you and then say you're not good enough. After I applied to multiple state jobs, I got several of the same "Oh, this was such a tough decision" emails in a row. That fucking broke me. Dealing with my dad dying of cancer shortly after a successful chemo treatment and the shattered fucking family that was left was bad enough, but applying to all these goddamn jobs and getting "You're awesome! But no, we're not hiring you" is fucking brutal. And I didn't even have the fallback of FSU football to cheer me up.

I've also been told that I should not tell the 3 states story, because evidently my choice to not really pursue a job for 6 months because I knew I was going to leave just makes me seem unreliable or flighty or some shit. My choice, but my girlfriend has basically torpedoed my financial life because she grew up with a fucked up family that moved around a lot. I've been with her for 4 years now and her parents have moved 4 or 5 times in that same fucking span. They aren't in the military or anything. They just like to find new jobs and move. She and her two siblings were born in 3 different states, that's how much they fucking moved.

It used to be a joke: "You live with your parents?" Yeah, a ton, ton, ton of adults do. That's how shitty the economy is.

1) Dealt with enough repair technicians that made things worse and people who don't know what they're doing or where they're going.
2) Just because you don't want a shitty job doesn't mean you should be unable to have a shitty job.
