Also that wording.

"24 are estimated dead" doesn't sound good.

"Estimated dead are 24" sounds better.

Or maybe it's because I'm high

Johnnie Langendorff helps chase down church gunman
Good Samaritan recounts encounter with suspected killer.

One of the men who said he helped run the Texas church gunman off the road Sunday is being hailed as a hero for potentially preventing more bloodshed after the deadly shooting.

Johnnie Langendorff told Fox San Antonio he decided to track down the killer after seeing the gunman, Devin Kelley, exchanging fire with another member of the community. That person, who hasn't been identified, reportedly shot Kelley during the encounter.

The mass shooting unfolded around 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, which is about 30 miles southeast of San Antonio. At least 26 people were killed and 20 wounded.

Langendorff said he arrived at an intersection near the church. He said he witnessed Kelley and the other man engaged in a gun battle and recognized one of the men from the community.

"I pulled up on the intersection and I saw the shooter coming from the cars, actually right outside the church his vehicle was parked, doors open, engines open and him and the neighbor across the street and exchanging fire," he said.

Langendorff said he never got a look at the gunman, but just "saw the gunfire."

As the shooter got in his truck, Langendorff told Fox San Antonio the other man briefed him on what happened.

"He just hurt so many people. And he just affected so many people's lives, why wouldn't you want to take him down?"

"The shooter got in his truck, the gentlemen with the rifle came to my truck as the shooter took off, and he briefed me quickly on what had just happened and said we had to get him, so that's what I did," he said.

Following a brief chase, the two caught up with the gunman.

"We just take pursuit, we speed over 87 through traffic and hit about 95 going down 539 trying to catch this guy until he eventually lost control on his own and went off in the ditch," Langendorff said.

Police arrived within five to seven minutes to the location where the shooter was stopped. “We led police to him,” Lagendorff told Ksat.com.

Langendorff said he was not aware at the time of the chase the shooter had additional weapons in his vehicle and that he might have prevented more deaths.

"He just hurt so many people," he said. "And he just affected so many people's lives, why wouldn't you want to take him down?"

The U.S. Air Force didn’t report Texas church shooter Devin Kelley’s domestic violence conviction to the FBI -- even though it was required by the Pentagon -- leaving the door open for Kelley to buy weapons, officials said on Monday.
Kelley’s conviction wasn’t submitted to the FBI’s Criminal Justice Investigation Services Division for inclusion in the National Criminal Information Center database that is used to conduct background checks on would-be gun purchasers, Air Force spokesperson Ann Stefanek said.
The Holloman Air Force Base Office of Special Investigations -- the base where Kelley was stationed -- was supposed to enter his information into the database, according to a statement released Monday night by the Air Force.

Kelley, who killed at least 26 people when he opened fire at a church in Sutherland Springs on Sunday, received a bad conduct discharge from the military in 2014 after being court-martialed in 2012 for assaulting his wife and reportedly fracturing his stepson’s skull on purpose.
He was convicted on two charges of domestic assault, served 12 months in confinement at the Naval Consolidated Brig in California, and was later given the bad conduct discharge.
At issue is the Lautenberg Amendment, enacted by Congress in 1996. The federal law was designed to prohibit people convicted of domestic violence from buying or possessing a firearm regardless of whether the crime was a felony or a misdemeanor.

The Air Force “has launched a review of how the Service handled the criminal records of former Airman” Kelley, Stefanek said in the statement. The statement also noted the Air Force will investigate all of its databases “to ensure records in other cases have been reported correctly.”
The Air Force said it's asked the Pentagon Inspector General to "review records and procedures across the Department of Defense."

Spoiler:
Texas church shooter Devin Kelley escaped from a mental health facility in New Mexico after viciously attacking his stepson and smuggling firearms onto a US Air Force base; raising serious questions over why the madman passed a federal background check when purchasing the firearms used in the deadly shooting.
According to ABC News, the 26-year-old madman was arrested by the El Paso Police Department in the late hours of June 7, 2012 at a bus terminal in west Texas. The officers determined that Kelley had escaped from the Peak Behavioral Health Services facility in Santa Teresa, New Mexico earlier that evening.
Inside sources say Kelley appeared to be a “danger to himself and others,” adding that the then-21-year-old had smuggled firearms onto an Air Force Base and had made “death threats” against his commanding officers.
Devin Kelley murdered at least 26 people and injured 20 more when he opened fire at a rural church in Texas on Sunday, before engaging in a firefight with a local resident and eventually taking his own life.
It remains unclear why Kelley, with an extensive history of mental disorders, arrests, and a dishonorable discharge from the United States Air Force, was able to pass a national background check while purchasing the firearms used in the atrocity.
