He refused because he said he didn't want to receive special treatment. For Trump to say that that is not heroic is horrifying and disgusting.
You, of all people, would agree that military service does not make someone exempt from criticism. We'll get to that later.

In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as "suckers" for getting killed.

On at least two occasions since becoming president, according to three sources with direct knowledge of his views, Trump referred to former President George H. W. Bush as a "loser" for being shot down by the Japanese as a Navy pilot in World War II. (Bush escaped capture, but eight other men shot down during the same mission were caught, tortured, and executed by Japanese soldiers.)

When McCain died, in August 2018, Trump told his senior staff, according to three sources with direct knowledge of this event, "We're not going to support that loser's funeral," and he became furious, according to witnesses, when he saw flags lowered to half-staff. "What the fuck are we doing that for? Guy was a fucking loser," the president told aides. Trump was not invited to McCain's funeral.

[A]ny thoughts?
Yes. There are ZERO people on record saying this happened. There are TWENTY-FIVE people on record saying it did not, including FOURTEEN who were with Trump at the time. Most notably, Trump-hating war monger John Bolton:
Washington Post wrote:FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER JOHN BOLTON: “I didn’t hear either of those comments or anything even resembling them. I was there at the point in time that morning when it was decided that he would not go Aisne-Marne cemetery. He decided not to do it because of John Kelly’s recommendation. It was entirely a weather-related decision, and I thought the proper thing to do.”
Analysis: Bolton has particular credibility because he is a known Trump critic, having written a book, “The Room Where It Happened,” that depicts the president in highly unflattering terms. Moreover, in the book, Bolton wrote about the decision to cancel the trip to the cemetery, saying the weather was not good enough to ferry the president in a helicopter and a lengthy car drive was “an unacceptable risk” for a president in case of an emergency. (Kelly and Dunford instead traveled by motorcade to represent the United States.)
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:You support the military, right?
Sure.
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:Do you think McCain is a loser?
As a politician? Absolutely. Same goes for Bush, Kerry, and others.
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:Or is the draft-dodger Dump just a scumbag?
But I thought you liked draft-dodgers?
-Biden received five student draft deferments and a medical exemption
-Trump received four student draft deferments and a medical exemption
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:[Y]ou think this guy is qualified to lead the United States?
Yes, and 70+ million Americans agree, despite the "Great Unifier" calling them "ugly", "chumps" and Nazi supporters for the crime of supporting the President of the United States.
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:Do you think he gives a flying fuck about you?
I'm not a mind reader, but I don't give a flying fuck what he thinks about me if he does what's right for the country.
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:Do you think he'd define you as a winner or a loser/sucker if he didn't know if you voted for him?
I'm not a mind reader who can see into the future, but I know he didn't call me a "chump" or a Nazi supporter.
FuckESPNdotCOM wrote:The rest of you Dump voters, how about you? Does this surprise you or is it just "fake news"? I highly doubt it's fake considering he's on camera calling McCain a loser.
It's obviously fake, which is why NO ONE corroborated the story and TWENTY FIVE people went on record to refute it. It's also why the media dropped it so quickly. If it had a >0% chance of being true, it would have been the top story for weeks, if not months. If that doesn't convince you, the fact that NO MEDIA OUTLET fact-checked these claims when made by Biden AND Harris during their lie-riddled debate performances. If you still don't get it, it's because you live in a media bubble and suffer from confirmation bias and severe cognitive dissonance. But don't worry, you're not alone! A super-majority of "highly educated" Democrats believe that Russia literally hacked voting machines and changed votes in favor of Trump in 2016. :ROFL2
Anyway, here are some quotes on the military from our McCain-loving friend FESPN:
"I hate the fact that people act like undrafted military grunts are heroes..." -FESPN 7/17/19
"[T]he government sponsors and gives medals to murderers and rapists all the time, as long as they are or were members of the military." -FESPN 1/11/19
"[N]obody in the US military is doing anything worthwhile: just being overseas either doing jack shit or torturing/killing people. What heroes." -FESPN 7/20/18
"...military knob-gobblers who think being voluntary cannon-fodder is heroic. I mean I guess in a Darwin Award way it is, but that's only applicable to the non-reproductive/dead ones." -FESPN 7/20/18
"[S]ome killers are viewed as heroes (military fuckwits) in the eyes of many while others (Dahmer, Gary Hilton, Bundy) are vilified." -FESPN 1/12/17
(Supporting draft dodgers) "Warmongers always villainizing people who DON'T murder people." -FESPN 6/6/16
FESPN on McCain:
"Or the potential dumb whore VP and McCain-death President Palin. But at least
McCain was just a douchebag, which is as good as it gets with Republican candidates.
I swear, you Republicans are Dunning-Kruger stupid if you think Obama is worse than those
failures." -FESPN 8/23/15
FESPN on veterans:
"I don't really care about veterans who willingly chose to fuck up their own lives..." -FESPN 6/4/16
