WEDU said that the 10 people that watch that channel would protest and since that is ten times as many poster we have, we said, "fuck it."

I grew up in Michigan and moved to Connecticut a year or so after I graduated. The confederate flag isn’t flown as much in Connecticut as it is in Michigan, but it has always annoyed me seeing it flown in either of these northern states. Not even considering the obvious racial implications that are more contemporary, I find it hugely disrespectful to our ancestors. In Michigan, only New York had more of its boys die trying to hold the union together, and you have the audacity to plaster your pick’em up truck with the symbol of a treasonous secession movement? Nonsense.

Hey now, the US flag is also a symbol of a treasonous secession movement... by a bunch of greedy white slave owners who didn't want to pay their taxes. And the confederate battle flag (never the official flag of the Confederacy) wasn't a widely recognized symbol of racism until those pesky "Dixiecrat" racists started using them in the 50's.

MYTH: The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism today.

FACT: The Confederate Battle Flag today finds itself in the center of much controversy and poopla going on in several states. The cry to take this flag down is unjustified. It is very important to keep in mind that the Confederate Battle Flag was simply just that. A battle flag. It was never even a National flag, so how could it have flown over a slave nation or represented slavery or racism? This myth is continued by lack of education and ignorance. Those that vilify the Confederate Battle Flag are very confused about history and have jumped upon a bandwagon with loose wheels.

Yeah, that seems a little biased coming from Snopes, but I've seen worse from factcheck.org. So, whatever. :dunno

Nay, remember I used the qualifier “contemporary” to address its racial implications. We could discuss all day the economic impact of banning slavery in the south when it’s economy relied so heavily on it, and what that means in regards to the “state’s rights” argument, but the racial aspect I was referring to was the introduction of the flag to southern government building as a protest to federal interference during the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. I think the argument presented by snopes – a common one – Is a bit of a non sequitur and an attempt to derail the discussion.

Stupid qualifiers... :banghead

I don't take issue with your comments, though. But while there is far more opposition than support for the flag, the majority of Americans simply don't care. I have noticed that as more flags are being removed, more 'necks are plastering them to their pick 'em up trucks.

Personally, I fall into the "don't care" category. I just like to argue.

I go by the theory that the Confederate Flag stems from the Civil War (North versus South, not black versus white). It is interpreted differently by different people, but to force a label on it and create laws around it based on only some groups views of what it stands for is ridiculous. The South was for slavery. That does not mean that is the sole reason they stitched up a piece of fabric to fly on a pole. When I see a Confederate Flag, I think "Southern", not "Slave Trader". Some people have too much time on their hands.

I think it's cool that Google banned the confederate flag, but continued pimping the Nazi flag. Add that to the Iran "deal", and it kind of makes you wonder...

Okay, not really :lolthumb but it is fun to use Dem-style reasoning every now and then.

I have never seen anyone flying a nazi flag. How can this be when I see confederate flags on a regular basis? Does this mean you are full of shit?

No, it means your waisism causes you to suffer from a rare form of change blindness. I bet you can't even see the Nazi flag the white supremacist is flying in the photo below. Shame on you, roundeye!
