Theft
Rockaway Township Police were called to Victoria’s Secret at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall on June 1, where they learned from the store manager that a woman allegedly had stolen 14 bras, valued at $672, from the display table. The female was described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, with curly dark hair, medium build, wearing glasses and possibly of Indian descent. The suspect reportedly put the bras in a bag and walked out of the store.
Attempted shoplifting
Rockaway Township Police were called to Wal-Mart on June 5 on reports of a shoplifter in custody. Stacie Gallo, 24, of Byram Township, allegedly attempted to conceal cosmetics, valued at $43.39, in her purse and a plastic bag. Gallo reportedly paid for several other items, as the stolen merchandise remained concealed. Gallo was arrested and transported to police headquarters where she was charged with shoplifting. Gallo was later released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
A report of a shoplifting brought Rockaway Township Police to the Target store on June 9. Brooke E. Hallowell, 23, of Belvidere, and Amanda J. Madsen, 28, of Washington, allegedly placed articles of clothing and goods inside bags and under their shopping cart and attempted to leave the store after each other, without paying. All together the items had a value of $1,435.05. Hallowell and Madsen were detained in the store’s security office until patrols arrived. When officers asked Hallowell and Madsen if they had anything else on them or in their pockets prior to being handcuffed, Hollowell stated that she didn't have other merchandise on her but did have a needle inside her handbag. Madsen stated that she had a needle inside her shorts. The needles were collected and placed into evidence by police. Hallowell and Madsen were taken into custody and transported back to police headquarters where they were both charged with possession of hypodermic needles in addition to shoplifting.
Police were called to the Wal-Mart on June 14 for a report of a shoplifting incident. When officers arrived they learned that Augustine R. Chan, 41, of Morris Plains, attempted to conceal various items into a bag and attempted to walk out of store without paying. Items totaled $141.20. Chan was arrested and transported back to police headquarters where he was processed on charges of shoplifting and released on summons.
On June 14, police were called to Sears on a report of shoplifting. Faviola Mendez, 26, and Andrea Caamano, 46, both of Dover, allegedly attempted to conceal five fragrances in a purse while in the women’s fitting room. Caamano allegedly took $183.99 worth and Mendez took $45 worth, totaling $228.99 in fragrances. Mendez and Caamano were arrested and processed on charges of shoplifting. Each was released with a summons.
Cigarettes stolen
On June 11, Rockaway Township Police responded to the Street Corner Store, inside the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Food Court, regarding a burglary. According to mall security, the store was closed at about 10 p.m. on June 10, and at 7 a.m., they discovered someone had forcibly entered the store. Police noted that a small glass window on the lower portion of the glass facade had been broken by a rock taken from the landscape outside of the food court. The unknown suspect(s) were able to crawl through the small opening into the store and took an unknown quantity of cigarettes from behind the counter, before exiting the store through a fire exit leading to the exterior of the mall. Morris County Sheriff’s CID processed the scene. The exact amount of cigarettes taken and their monetary value are not known at this time, pending an inventory by the store staff.
CDS possession at Splitrock
Rockaway Township Police responded to the Splitrock Reservoir on June 13 to assist the N.J. Division of Fish and Game with multiple arrests. According to reports, authorities had apprehended Emilio K. Gamez, 22, and Jose A. Romero, 23, of Rockaway, after agents found them in the area of the Splitrock Dam parking lot with controlled dangerous substances (cocaine, marijuana, hash). Both were transported back to police headquarters for processing. Romero was charged with possession of cocaine, hash, and marijuana and he was released after posting 10 percent of his bail. Gamez was charged with possession of marijuana and was also released on a summons.
Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Chief David Mayhood of the Boonton Police Department announced the arrest of 21-year-old Johnathan Lozada, of Boonton, on charges of sexual assault in violation in the second degree, endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree and fourth degree unlawful wearing of a uniform.
According to authorities, on June 12, a 14-year-old girl reported to law enforcement that she had engaged in sexual intercourse with Lozada while at his home in Boonton.
The victim also reportedly stated that Lozada represented himself to be a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and wore what appeared to be authentic military insignia, specifically dog tags, and a U.S. Marine Corps tattoo.
The victim alleged that Lozada convinced her to engage in sexual acts by telling her that he was deploying with the military within days.
During the investigation, law enforcement determined that Lozada was not, and had never been, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Lozada’s bail has been set at $75,000 no 10 percent with conditions of a Nicole’s Law Restraining Order and no contact with children under the age of 18.

Burglary/theft
• Officers were dispatched to Hamilton Road at 9:25 a.m. on June 22 on a report of a burglary and theft. The victim reported that sometime during the night, unknown suspect(s) entered their garage and removed a titanium mountain bike.
• Officer Nicholas Salerno was dispatched to Douglas Road at 10:12 a.m. on June 23 on a report of a burglary and theft. The victim reported that unknown suspect(s) entered their garage and removed a bicycle.
• Officer Fuquannah Holley was dispatched to Highland Avenue at 5:50 a.m. on June 23 on a report of a burglary and theft. The victim reported that unknown suspect(s) had entered their open garage and removed two bicycles valued at $1,450. • Officer Christopher Grogan was dispatched to the 200 block of Ridgewood Avenue at 1:08 p.m. on a report of a burglary and theft. The victim reported that they believed that sometime during the night, unknown suspect(s) entered their residence through an unlocked door and removed a wallet.
Theft
Officer Nicholas Salerno was dispatched to Midland Avenue at 6:29 p.m. on June 20. The victim reported that unknown suspect(s) removed a girl's pink bicycle from the yard.
Mission Street - A bicycle was stolen from a residential garage on Tuesday, June 16, police said. The garage door had been left unlocked, according to police.
Summit Avenue - Police reported an attempted burglary of a residence on Tuesday, June 16. Police stated that the homeowner heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the home. Responding officers discovered fresh pry-marks on a rear entrance door, police said.
Elm Street - Two bicycles were stolen from a residential garage on Tuesday, June 16, according to police. The garage door had been left unlocked, police stated.
Sears Place - A bicycle was stolen from an unlocked garage on Wednesday, June 17, police said.
Mission Street - A bicycle was taken from a detached residential garage on Wednesday, June 17, according to police. The door to the garage had been left ajar, police said.
Theft
South Park Street - A 2011 BMW X3 was stolen from The Siena parking garage on Wednesday, June 17, police said. The keys were in the vehicle, according to police.
South Fullerton Avenue - An envelope containing cash was taken from an unlocked vehicle in a parking lot on Wednesday, June 17, police said.
Wayside Place - Loose change was taken from a motor vehicle parked in a driveway on Thursday, June 18, police said. The vehicle's door lock was damaged in the incident, according to police.
Claremont Avenue - A red 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was stolen from an apartment building parking lot on Friday, June 19, police said.
Vandalism
Canterbury Park - Graffiti was discovered spray-painted on the park garage house on Wednesday, June 17, according to police.
North Fullerton Aveune - Police reported on Thursday, June 18, that a large field floodlight at Watchung School was discovered smashed overnight.
Midland Avenue - Graffiti was sprayed on the entrance to the Montclair High School gymnasium on Sunday, June 21, police said.
Shoplifting
• Officers were detailed to the CVS on Washington Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on June 18 on a report of a shoplifter. Store security observed a female conceal $186 worth of various merchandise in her purse, leave the store, and attempt to enter a cab. The suspect was stopped by police and found to be in possession of stolen merchandise. Vanessa Shaarawy, 35, of Kearny, was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting. At police headquarters, she gave a false name to police and was also charged with hindering apprehension. She was also wanted by the Essex County Sheriff's Office. She was held on a warrant and $1,000 bail.
• Officers were detailed to Walgreens on Washington Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on June 23 on a report of a shoplifter who fled the store. Officers stopped a male fitting the description of the suspect in the area of Dewitt Avenue. The male attempted to conceal a plastic bag behind a garbage can. The suspect, Angel Gonzalez, 33, of Newark, was found to be in possession of stolen merchandise from Walgreens and was taken into custody. Six bars of Dove soap valued at $18.17 were recovered and turned over to the store. Gonzalez was released on his own recognizance.
• Officers were detailed to the Pathmark on Belmont Avenue at 10:24 p.m. on June 24 on a report of a shoplifter. Officers met with store security, who stopped a male who had concealed $81 worth of various merchandise and attempted to leave the store. The suspect was held until police arrived. Orlando Christmas, 52, of Newark was taken into custody and charged with shoplifting. He was held on an undisclosed amount of bail.
