Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins have won two straight after the Carolina Hurricaneswon the opening game. Penguins forward Chris Kunitz leads all scorers in the series with two goals and four points.

Penguins team scope: Injured forwards Evgeni Malkin (lower body) and Patric Hornqvist(undisclosed) skated Wednesday, but aren't yet ready to return. "They won't be going with us on the trip," coach Mike Johnston said in comments tweeted by the Penguins. "They didn't take contact at today's practice." Defenseman Christian Ehrhoff, who took two shifts in a 3-2 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday before leaving, is out for now according to Johnston, who expected to get a report from doctors later Wednesday. Johnston said he would be talking to management about possible recalls from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. The Penguins are two points behind the New York Islanders for second place in the Metropolitan Division with a game in hand.

Hurricanes team scope: Goalie Cam Ward is healthy and will get the start, coach Bill Peters said Wednesday. Anton Khudobin had started five in a row for Carolina when Ward battled an illness. Everyone skated for the Hurricanes at practice with the exception of injured defensemen Jack Hillen (concussion) andRasmus Rissanen (knee). Forward Victor Rask, who scored their only goal in a 3-1 loss Monday to the Chicago Blackhawks, was tied for 10th among rookies entering Wednesday with 29 points. The Hurricanes, who are 2-6-3 in March, will wear white at home for the second time this season; they defeated the Nashville Predators 2-1 on Dec. 2 in the prior instance.

to call someone the top scorer in the league is ridiculously misleading to people who dont really follow hockey. they would all assume the highest scoring player is the one who scored the most goals... because thats what makes fucking sense.
