Not worth the price but they are cool. I'd get the MacBook air or whatever

Unless she is going to be doing a lot of video editing it is way overpriced.

Get an Asus and just maximize the features with your budget. Also get one that has an hdmi port because they are clutch as fuck

Why bother with a laptop, just get a tablet if you don't need processing power or applications.

Upload to where?

Get the tablet for cheaper and way better portability.

Upload your pics to Flickr (free 1tb), Photobucket, iCloud, Skydrive, Google drive, etc and back them up on a $59 1tb external.

So will an external hard drive work for the iPad? Which iPad do you recommend?

Depends on the external as not all are all OS compatible, but I know for a fact this one works on both Windows and iOS operating systems:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008R7FC74/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This just connects via USB and you can drag/drop anything/everything into the drive. You can make folders in the drive to organize your files as well. These come with a little preinstalled Seagte software if you want to set scheduled backups or other functions but I didn't even bother using it (just made a folder and dumped all the preinstalled crap in it  ).

They come with a 1 year warranty, which isn't great but there are similar Seagate models that come with 2 year warranty for a few dollars more. I opted for this one since I had rewards points to use and got 2 of them for the price of 1, so I could easily back up my back up. ;)

As for iPads, someone else here would prob be better suited to make a recommendation. I think you're safe with any new tablet, whether it be from Apple or another company as long as the reviews are good and you get a good product warranty. :)
