How does the Roku, Apple TV, & amazon fire tv work

Are they all the same in how they work?

Do you have to pay for subscriptions?

And what's on them?

They are basically just different devices to stream netflix, hulu, amazon prime, etc which you obviously you would have to pay for separately. Last I heard the Roku 3 provides the most content. I just use my gaming consoles though.

Thank you. Was looking at using my viggle points and I can get any of those for free but why the fuck would i do that when I already can with ps3 and 360.
